A meeting of CPN-UML Standing Committee on Thursday made it clear that UML is in favour of seeking consensus through discussions as far as possible. “Although the process of formation of questionnaire has begun, efforts are still being made to seek consensus through talks and UML is still in favour of moving ahead with consensus as far as possible,” said the UML in a statement issued by party General Secretary Ishwor Pokharel after the meeting.
“We urge all the opposition parties including the UCPN (M) to abandon the path of street protests, prohibition and boycott and join the process of consensus and not to turn away from the historical responsibility of drafting a federal republic democratic constitution.”
UML also charged that the irresponsible behaviour and obstruction posed by the UCPN (Maoist)-led opposition alliance at Constitution Assembly caused the failure to draft constitution on January 22. The party also concluded that the formation of Questionnaire Committee on January 25 is a positive move as it has secured the constitution drafting process.
UML urges govt to ease gas supply
In a different context, UML drew the attention of government to ease the supply of cooking gas as its shortage has badly affected the daily life of general public.
“The shortage, despite Nepal Oil Corporation’s reiteration that the supply is abundant, indicates the irresponsible and ill-intentioned mentality of the profit seeking black marketers,” reads the statement, issued by UML General Secretary Ishwor Pokhrel.
